This is a MUCH nicer book about European arms and armor than a book I bought before called Arms and Armor of the Medieval Knight. That book boasted of lots of photos, but they were mainly of the Bayeaux Tapestry and paintings. Not at all what I had hoped for. But THIS book is a gem! One more reason for me to make it to London someday/5(39). Most non-European armor, such as Japanese samurai armor, or Chinese or Indian armor, was completely different. They used mostly “lamellar” armor, in which small plates of leather, often stiffened with layers of lacquer, were woven together with silk cord to form a light but flexible armor.

I got this book thinking it would be a good reference for arms and armor of the High Middle Ages and Renaissance time periods, and it most certainly delivered on that expectation.
